Import connections

Bring your saved connections into Gadwal from TablePlus or a .env file. Everything is read locally, from a file you pick.

From TablePlus

  1. Choose File › Import › Connections from TablePlus…, or Import… in the left column of the Connections window. You can also drop TablePlus’s Data folder on the Connections window.
  2. The Open panel starts in TablePlus’s data folder, ~/Library/Application Support/com.tinyapp.TablePlus/Data/ (the Setapp version uses com.tinyapp.TablePlus-setapp). Pick the whole Data folder so your TablePlus groups come across too, or a file you exported from TablePlus.
  3. Review the list, then import.

From a .env file

  1. Choose File › Import › Connections from .env File… (or Import… in the Connections window) and pick the file in your project. Dropping a .env file on the Connections window works too.
  2. Gadwal lists every database URL in the file, such as DATABASE_URL or CLICKHOUSE_URL, including the URLs Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale, Railway and Render give you.
  3. Review the list, then import. Passwords inside the URLs go into your Keychain.
Import from .env File: three database URLs found in a project's .env file, for Postgres, MySQL and ClickHouse, ready to import.
Three database URLs found in a project's .env file.

Supported URL schemes include postgres://, postgresql://, mysql://, mariadb://, clickhouse://, clickhouses://, and SQLite and DuckDB file URLs (sqlite:, duckdb:). The sslmode and sslrootcert query parameters are honored.

The review list

Both imports end in the same list, so you see everything before it is saved:

  • Duplicates of connections you already have are marked and aren’t saved twice.
  • Passwords from TablePlus can’t come across, because another app’s Keychain items stay private. Those rows are marked so you enter each password once after importing. SSH key files are chosen again in Edit so Gadwal is allowed to read them.
  • Engines Gadwal doesn’t support yet are shown as skipped, with the reason.

Importing is part of the free tier, but after the trial the free tier keeps 2 saved connections, and imported ones count toward that.
